Menopause Management Q & A
What is menopause?
Medically, you’ve entered menopause when you’ve gone an entire year without your period. At this stage of your life, your ovaries no longer produce estrogen and progesterone.
Though menopause has a definitive start date, the hormonal changes don’t occur all at once. You may start the transition to menopause in your 30s or 40s.
During this phase, your hormone levels go up and down, and may cause irregular bleeding, as well as many of the symptoms associated with menopause.
Who needs menopause management?
Menopause affects every woman differently. Some women experience no symptoms at all or only mild symptoms. However, about one-third of women have symptoms that affect their quality of life.
Every woman who’s approaching menopause or already there benefits from menopause management. However, you should seek help for severe menopausal symptoms such as:
- Hot flashes
- Mood changes
- Night sweats
- Difficulty sleeping
- Low libido
- Vaginal dryness
- Menopause brain fog
The experienced team at The Women's Center specializes in menopause management and provides treatments that improve your symptoms and enhance your quality of life.
What happens during a consultation for menopause management?
When you come in to see the health experts at The Women's Center for menopause management, you can expect a thorough evaluation.
During your exam, your provider reviews your concerning symptoms, your menstrual and gynecological history, and your medical and family histories. Then, they perform a physical assessment and pelvic exam.
They also run a blood test to check your hormone levels, which helps determine your treatment options.
What are the treatments for menopause?
The Women's Center offers many options for treating menopausal symptoms. They work closely with you to design a program that alleviates your symptoms and improves your overall health and wellness.
To optimize your hormone levels, they offer:
Traditional hormone replacement therapy
Traditional hormone replacement therapy includes FDA-approved medications that contain estrogen or estrogen and progesterone.
These hormones are provided as pills, creams, or in-office injections.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
Bioidentical hormones are plant-based hormones which have been modified to have the same molecular structure as the hormones in your body.
With bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, your provider customizes your hormone treatment to match your specific needs. The therapy may include estrogen, progesterone, and/or testosterone.
Your provider may give the natural hormone therapy as a compounded cream or a pellet. They place your bioidentical hormone pellet under your skin during an in-office visit.
Your provider may also recommend non-hormonal treatments to manage your symptoms, such as antidepressants for mood changes or clonidine to reduce hot flashes.
There’s no need to suffer from uncomfortable menopause symptoms. Call The Women's Center, PC, or request an appointment online today.
